Mr McCaffery joined the NHS in 1992 following a career in the automotive and oil industries and was the Chair of the United Kingdom Offshore Operator Committee Employee Relations Group in 1990-1991. He has held a number of senior roles in both the Scottish and English Health Service and was a member of the group responsible for preparing the 2001 National Plan and has Chaired all the major Acute Hospitals HR Directors’ Groups in both Scotland and England. He joined NHS Lothian in June 2004 and is responsible for Acute Services, Facilities, Procurement and Capital. He is a graduate of Glasgow Caledonian University and is a Corporate Fellow of the Institute of Personnel Development. In addition he until recently was a non-executive director of Skills for Health, the UK body charged with developing education and training for all healthcare workers in both the public and private sectors.
