PARC’s new £16 million campus at Wauchope Square, bringing together St Francis and Niddrie Mill primary schools, is now completed and will open its doors for the first time at the start of the new term in August 2008.
With a joint school capacity for around 700 children, it is one of the largest and most impressive sites in the city. An eye-catching, horseshoe shaped central building brings both schools together, offering a range of facilities such as sports halls and dining areas.
Designed to a high specification by award-winning architects Elder and Cannon, the schools' campus features:
• A wide range of classrooms, art and technology facilities, a library, computer suite and assembly hall, an outdoor playground and all-weather sports pitches
• Innovations including an external teaching garden and a removable partition between the two sports halls to create a double-sized venue for sports, drama and community use
• Pedestrian-friendly links to cycle paths and walkways through the new homes development
The campus has been designed for use by the wider Craigmillar community outside of school hours; communal facilities will include the central halls, playground and two playing fields.
