Town Centre
PARC has developed a masterplan for Craigmillar town centre: this features a new town square which will act as a focal point for the local community. The total area under consideration is over 50 acres.The main cornerstones of the Masterplan are:
Retail
Improved retailing that is attractive and meets the need of both residents and visitors, while creating more local jobs. Plans include a major new foodstore and petrol filling station, plus a parade of shops fronting the new town square.
Homes
The town centre will offer around 600 new homes and provide integrated links with ParcLife’s housing developments at The Square.
Commercial
A new commercial and civic heart will be developed for Craigmillar with new commercial floorspace, allowing more local jobs to be created. PARC has retained and refurbished the White House public house, a B-listed building, which has lain empty for a number of years.
New School and Library
The new £30 million community high school and public library will be located at the heart of the new town centre.
Public Realm
The area will be improved with more pedestrian walkways, widening of Niddrie Mains Road at key junctions, better shop frontages and planting of 250 new lime trees.
