The Wauchope Square design has won an award at the prestigious 2009 Roses Design Awards.
The winners of the awards were announced at a ceremony held in Nottingham recently.
The Roses Design Awards are about promoting excellence in design, both in terms of graphic design and architectural design. In the Place Making category, the judges considered excellence in master plan design, including the arrangements of individual buildings, activities and the treatment of the spaces between them.
A spokesperson for PARC told the Chronicle: “We are very pleased to have won this national recognition of design excellence for Craigmillar which confirms PARC`s vision to deliver a higher quality of public realm.”
Chris Simmonds of Page & Park, the Master Planner added: “We are delighted that the Master Plan at Wauchope Square has been recognised in the Roses design awards.
“ It is heartening to see that the pioneering work in street design developed in Craigmillar is achieving national critical acclaim and that modest projects like this one can hold their own in competition with larger, more commercial projects on the scale of Liverpool One.
“We see Wauchope Square as a model for urban regeneration and residential development and we hope this award will help promote the use of Shared Spaces in Communities throughout the UK.”
Buildings in the Wauchope design include the new dual campus school for Niddrie Mill and St Francis Primary schools and the innovative Homezone housing areas where children’s outdoor playing space, pedestrians and cars can all interact in a safe environment.
